In the south east corner of the Tasmanian archipelago, nestled amongst ancient eucalypts and gently rolling terrain, sits Highcroft Hills. Our home. It’s here, on seven acres of clay-loam soil we grow our passion: five varieties of roses, 10,000 plants in all.

This passion began as a personal pursuit. Roses command a quiet power — their complexity, their fragrance, the delicate care they demand. Growing them provided an opportunity to act as custodian of the land – the terroir. It has bloomed into so much more.

We’re 3,000 kilometres from Antarctica. The Roaring Forties winds travel unhindered across the open Southern Ocean. Uncontaminated by dust, industrial pollutants or smoke, they deliver the cleanest air in the world to our door. Cleaner air means cleaner rain and cleaner soil.

Speaking of rain, over 900mm of it falls across Highcroft Hills each year. Falling evenly across the growing season, consistent rainfall creates a stable foundation for the soil, making it easier to irrigate precisely and efficiently, with fewer resources.

Our clay-loam soil is formed from dark, crystal-speckled Jurassic dolerite. We augment the natural soil quality with organic matter and crushed oyster shells –upcycled from the local restaurant industry. We return the discarded shells to the land to provide calcium to the soil, thus supporting the perfect pH range for our roses.

The result? Roses laden with exceptional bioactive compound availability. And in late November, as the moon waxes to full strength and the petals unfurl in the dawn light, a year of faithful nurturing comes to fruition: the harvest begins. 2500 kilograms of roses produce just a single kilogram of rose oil. Using advanced extraction methodologies, we craft rose extract, hydrosol and essential oil from these highly potent, nutrient dense rose petals.

From a place like no other. Guided by nature, refined by hand. An otherworldly terroir.

This craft is our mission. We share our home with rare and remarkable wildlife. Our terroir exists as a living organism. In a place like nowhere else, preserving what we have becomes even more important. So stewardship is a role we take with great care. Our approach is rooted in nature. We work to natural rhythms. We practice regenerative, minimal-intervention cultivation. And we’re uncompromising about single-origin and traceability. Our goal is to reconnect people with the sensory richness of the natural world, with a mindful alternative to synthetic formulations.
