The five varieties of Rosa × damascena and Rosa × centifolia grown at Highcroft Hills have been chosen with great care.
Each uniquely selected for its bioactive profile, our curation allows us to extract a full spectrum of Antioxidants, Terpenes, Phenolic Acids, Flavonols, Anthocyanins, Tannins, and Lipids for exceptional applications. Grown in the strong, clear light of the Tasmanian archipelago, the Total Phenolic Content (TPC) of our roses is uniquely concentrated, providing a high-potency product optimised for brightening, soothing, and shielding the skin at a cellular level.
Growing strength from the ground up
Our unique location and pristine terroir support our greatest asset: our soil.
For thriving roses you need thriving soil. The soil at Highcroft Hills is free-draining, well-structured clay-loam, with a neutral pH of 6.5. It’s laden with organic matter and the macronutrients nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. And it’s enriched with micronutrients including calcium, magnesium, sulfur, copper and zinc. We closely monitor the precise balance and step in when necessary with additional natural treatments. We seek to preserve the soil’s inherent integrity to grow strong, vibrant, potent roses, year after year.
Neutral pH
Roses thrive in soil that’s neutral to slightly acidic. So we add oyster shells to our soil to create a rose-pleasing pH of 6.5. This specific chemical balance allows for optimum uptake of essential nutrients that strengthen our roses, from root to bud.
Macronutrients
Nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium are core macronutrients. Our roses use them to build healthy green leaves and stems, grow strong, supportive root systems and vibrant blooms, and protect against disease and the challenges of cold weather.
Micronutrients
Calcium, magnesium, sulfur, copper and zinc are essential elements. They help build stable cell walls, drive chlorophyll production, synthesise essential amino acids and proteins, regulate photosynthesis and respiration, and boost growth.
Where art meets science
Each of our five rose varieties has been specifically selected for its bio-active compound profile. To maintain purity and potency over generations, each tender, young plant is grafted onto the strong, deep rootstock of Dr. Huey roses. This method combines the best of both worlds: the adaptability, resilience and vigour of Dr. Huey roots, with the bio-active diversity and availability of our chosen rose varieties.

Only 3000 kms from Antarctica, acres of old-growth forests support pollinators, organic matter feeds microbes in the soil, and life is replenished by oceanic rainfall and clear, consistent light.
